IC Information
Name: Leaf
Canon: Pokémon
Canon Point: Fire Red/Leaf Green game canon; just after getting the Thunder Badge.
History: Here!
Personality: Leaf is by far the worst trainer that has ever existed. Maybe that’s an overstatement, although she’s sure to say it’s right on the mark. With her inability to keep promises (and unwillingness to make them in the first place), she’d definitely say she’s a useless, no-good trainer. Maybe in not so many words, maybe not to any person -- but to her Pokémon, who haven’t doubted her skill at all, she’d say it.

The only thing she’d admit to being any good at is connecting with her Pokémon. Leaf, like many who come from Pallet Town, has a seemingly natural ability to empathize with them. She’s also just always been good at getting along with people because of her shy nature, which compliments her rowdy best friend’s more ... charismatic one. As a result, she doesn’t put a lot of thought into how she gets along so well. Still, her Pokémon adore her, and she doesn’t make enemies easily.

She’s also good at battling; mark another point towards being a good trainer! She had a rough time of it in the beginning - losing her very first battle to Green in the lab, struggling up Route 1 and Viridian Forest... She faired better in Pewter City’s Gym, but barely made it through Mt. Moon and with Misty’s gym. Basically, she’s had a rollercoaster of a journey so far -- and it hasn’t been very kind to her already crippled-by-Green’s-somewhat-sudden-bullying esteem, nor to her ability to capture Pokémon. That is, she’s been scared by her rough time into not catching any -- just accepting the ones she’s been given, or that she’s been conned into buying.

While she has this great fear, she has an even greater determination, and it shows in her Pokémon’s power and how well-trained they are. It’s also a trait that’s gotten her out of some tough situations - such as when she trained her Magikarp up into a Gyarados thanks to a curb-stomp loss in Cerulean City - and one that’s gotten her into some tough situations - such as with Team Rocket, and her unwillingness to sit by while nasty people used Pokémon for their own greedy deeds.

She was given - entrusted - with one of Professor Oak’s precious Pokémon however, so the potential for great things is surely residing in her.

First-Person: These two should work!
Third-Person: Leaf sighs, wringing her hat out for the third time this week. She'd been having terrible luck with water, of all things -- first with splashing into the lake, then stumbling into an ever-rainy world, and finally... Letting her Gyarados out to swim, only to get splashed. Her shoes get placed neatly by the water, along with her socks, as she sits and slips her legs into the lake.

It wasn't so bad, as long as she wasn't in it in it. She smiles when Karpette swims close to the edge, tail skipping across the bottom of her feet, and shakes her head when the Gyarados rises out of the water and tries to nudge her in.

"I-- I'm not good at swimming," she explains to her disappointed partner. "I like looking at the water, but I don't like being in it."

The Gyarados slides back under the water, swimming slower than before, and Leaf sighs again. She'd been doing well with keeping her Pokémon happy, and now here she was, disappointing them. Even the Professor must be disappointed in her back home... Avalar, she thinks, doesn't seem like it's going to be any different.
